Encapsulated All-Trans Retinol

Encapsulated All-Trans Retinol

Has been demonstrated to decrease wrinkles by 58% in the cheeks and 28% in the eyes after 4 weeks of use. Has been shown to increase collagen synthesis leading to more elastic and healthier skin structure. Has been demonstrated to mitigate photoaging through inducing enhancing the expression of CRABP II and CRBP mRNAs and proteins (mechanisms in the skin that help to bring retinol molecules into cells). Has been shown — compared to other forms of retinol (e.g. retinoic acid) — to cause considerably less transepidermal water loss, erythema and scaling. Has been demonstrated to increase keratinocyte (skin cell) proliferation and epidermal thickness thus increasing the speed to skin rejuvenation and repair. Has been shown to promote significant up-regulation of COL1A1 and COL3A1 gene expression correlating with an increase in collagen synthesis (specifically procollagen I and procollagen III proteins). Saccharide Isomerate

Saccharide Isomerate

This plant derived sugar complex mimics the natural moisturizing factors (NMF's) in the upper layer of the skin to provide immediate and lasting hydration. It has been shown to influence moisture regulation, which improves skin's resilience against environmental aggression.    Sources: Dry Skin and Moisturizers: Chemistry and Function, 2006, page 200

Bioidentical Ceramide & Lipid Complex (Ceramide NP, Ceramide AP, Ceramide EOP, Phytosphingosine, & Cholesterol)

Bioidentical Ceramide & Lipid Complex (Ceramide NP, Ceramide AP, Ceramide EOP, Phytosphingosine, & Cholesterol)

Ceramides have been shown to be effective at restoring barrier function and increasing skin hydration when applied topically. Formulations containing cholesterol in concert with ceramides and other lipids have been shown to reduce skin dryness. Decreases in ceramide levels in the skin have been correlated with atopic dermatitis — a type of eczema that results in itchy, red, swollen, and cracked skin. Over the period of 6 weeks, ceramide application has led to significantly lower eczema severity scores compared to a control with no ceramides. Ceramides have been shown to exhibit similar effects as topical steroids which suggests that they possess anti-inflammatory properties. Phytosphingosine has been shown to play an important role in healthy skin by reducing inflammation, regulating cell growth, and possessing anti-bacterial properties.

Chlamydomonas Acidophila Extract

Chlamydomonas Acidophila Extract

Using a human reconstructed skin surface, the active reduced key markers of inflammation (TNFa and PGE2) by 35% and 75% respectively after applied chemical stressors. The active protects the skin from overreacting to chemical stress. When an allergen is applied to a sample of blood, the active reduced basophil activation (a form of white blood cell that tells the body when an allergen is present and activates the immune system) by 22% and IL8 (a protein involved in inflammation) by 63%. The active limits skin reaction to sensitizers and allergens. In a double blind randomized study of 19 women (ages 18-60) applied the active to their skin twice a day for two weeks. After two weeks of treatment, the active resulted in an 11% reduction in redness 20 minutes after skin aggravation. The active protects against inflammation and continues to reduce visible effects thereafter. A double blind randomized study of 36 participants with sensitive skin was conducted where each participant placed the active on half of their face and a placebo on the other half. The following results were observed: 17% reduction in skin redness 18% increase in natural moisturizing factors 7% increase in skin hydration 6% reduction in transepidermal water loss 10% increase in involucrin (a naturally occurring protein that helps skin cells develop) Sources Data approved for release by Laboratoires Expanscience, 1 Place des Saisens, Paris, France.

Allantoin

Allantoin

Allantoin has been shown to increase cell turnover by increasing cell proliferation. This increased growth reduces dullness and improves healing. Has been demonstrated to reduce TEWL (transepidermal water loss) and can help to keep water in skin cells by acting like a sponge. The resulting effects help skin feel plump and soft. Allantoin has been shown to induce wound healing by regulating the inflammatory response of the skin   Sources Comparative Study of the Biological Activity of Allantoin and Aqueous Extract of the Comfrey Root. Phospholipid Emulsification System: Hydrogenated Lecithin, C12-16 Alcohols & Palmitic Acid

This ingredient trio forms a lamellar phospholipid emulsification that mimics the structure of the phospholipids in the skin. The result is a biomimetic emulsion that leaves skin feeling smooth and soft.

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride is a stable coconut-derived lipid that smoothes and helps to retain moisture. It's used in our formulas to seal in moisture and deliver a silky product texture.

Coco-Caprylate/Caprate

Coco-Caprylate/Caprate

Coco-caprylate/caprate is used as an emollient to soften the skin without leaving a greasy finish. We use it for its excellent spreadability and biocompatibility with the skin. Our coco-caprylate/caprate is derived from coconuts.

Ubiquinone (Coenzyme Q10 or CoQ10)

Ubiquinone (Coenzyme Q10 or CoQ10)

Coenzyme Q10, Q10, or Ubiquinone is fat soluble antioxidant that is a critical component in cellular energy production. It’s concentration reduces substantially with age and when the skin is exposed to external stressors. (1) Has been shown to be beneficial when applied to the skin by increasing cellular energy metabolism as well as imparting antioxidant effects. Coenzyme Q10 applied on the skin has been shown not only to increase concentrations at skin surface, but also in deeper layers of the skin where many actives do not impart a meaningful effect. (1) Is a critical component to the removal of reactive oxygen species (ROS) which are produced when cells are exposed to UV light. ROS causes damage to cell structures, membranes, DNA, and proteins that regulate cellular metabolism. Coenzyme Q10 acts as an antioxidant and helps remove ROS that build up cells over time. The concentration of Coenzyme Q10 in Voyager products matches clinically demonstrated concentrations for improved energy metabolism, increased antioxidant properties of skin, and increase concentrations in both the surface and deep layers of the skin.
